What could the do in Gran Turismo for Xbox Live that he can't on PS3?

Offer free DLC for one if we're lucky!

Basically, Live requires you to use MS methods of chat, etc. to provide a uniform consistent experience, which is good obviosuly, Live also requires DLC to have a cost and has various size restrictions, etc. (this changes from time to time so I don't know latest).

PSN is basically more open in that the developer, for example, can implement their own chat approach, or method for providing DLC, or allow free user generated DLC, etc.

Specifically for GT5 I have no idea - the only real example I can think of is UT3 on PS3 has mods, etc. which (unless something has changed) I think 360 can't have as that kind of free, open content isn't allowed).

So basically he could design his own totally custom online experience without having to conform to any preset standards (well, a much smaller set) or billing structures.

That's my understanding anyway.

OT - this is why I wish Valve would actually support PS3.  They make noises about wanting to get mods, etc. on Live but being unable to.  Well, support the PS3 Gabe and you can allow mods, etc. no problem!  Oh, and congrats on the award, can't argue with that.

I'd like to see more developers actually exploit this area of PSN.  Sadly UT3 wasn't enough of a hit to have much support, although there are some maps/mods available for download, but nothing like what you see for say L4D on PC.

I cant agree, L4D Survival pack and Forza 3 car packs were free.
