Can't really say. It's pretty obvious FF XIII Wii would of sold more in Japan.

However for the west.... it depends how big of a western hit it is... on the 360... I'd say.

Higher userbase doesn't always equate to higher sales. Perhaps that would be the case if FF13 was announced as a wii game from the start but even then, I doubt it because FFXIII sold pretty similar to its previous iterations on ps3s meager userbase alone.

Larger userbases do affect upper limits of sales... Wii's best selling game in Japan is at 3.6m, PS3's is at 1.8m.

I'd say a Wii FFXIII would've matched FFX (and exceeded FFXIII PS3) for sales in Japan.  In the west is where it would tumble though, as I think a lot of FF's expanded western audience are more PlayStation faithful, plus big Japanese 360 games tend to do well regardless.

lol, the hate for FFXIII is why it hasn't done as well as FFX. People complaining about one thing after the other. It's on track to be more hated than FFXII. Except the wii version of FFXIII was going to a completely different game, I dont see how your idea would come to fruition. Right now, my view of a wii version is the same FFXIII with a much lower res presentation. If anything the ps3 has the extra few who just bought it because the graphics were great (I personally know people like this).

Your idea would only apply to a more mainstream game but JRPGs or hell even RPGs period aren't mainstream. I don't know anyone who plays games on a more casual basis who plays RPGs. FF is mostly bought FF fans and not much else. I dont see the wii's extra userbase making much of a difference in that respect.

Critical reception's been insanely positive and it's legs have been proportionately better than FFX/XII slightly even.  The game didn't sell less because of what it is, it pretty plainly sold less because it's on PS3 (like MGS, Musou, Yakuza, Winning Eleven, etc, etc).  And even then, it hasn't sold much less even.

And Final Fantasy is nearly as "mainstream" as JRPGs get.  Any game that sells over a million units in Japan has to manage a notable degree of mainstream appeal.

Lol, the critical reception of kz2 didn't stop people from skipping the game because they didn't like the controls or other reasons. In the same vein, critical reception hardly means a thing when people conjure up reasons why they dont want to buy "x" game. You noted other games that have performed worse than previous iterations due to being on ps3 but I'll have to ask you then whether you think these games also would have performed better on wii with its higher userbase because last I checked, soccer games have completely tanked on wii despite said userbase. The way I see it, the JP market has simply shrunk, hence the lower sales.

Perhaps I'm thinking with a western mindset and see the JRPG genre in general as niche. It should also be noted that other notable JRPG games haven't necessarily done much better on wii due to said userbase. Think Tales.

Killzone isn't one of the top gaming brands in Japan.  Your comparison here is worse than useless, the brands, markets and media for each are totally incompatible.

The Japanese market today is bigger than it was the entire PS2 cycle.  The PlayStation market has shrunk though, hence FF shrunk a bit alongside it since it stuck to it.  Dragon Quest on the other hand...

I was aligning the comparison to kz2 in the west not Japan. Perhaps I should have mentioned that but I assumed it was obvious.

FF hardly shrunk because of PS3. Judging by Ps3 sales on FFXIII's release, it's quite obvious that fans of said game are willing to adopt any system its on. I can't count how many articles I've seen that suggest that the JP market has shrunk especially with regards to home consoles. DQIX is hardly a good example in that regard since we are not talking about FFXIII DS.

Besides, you never explained why soccer games are underperforming on wii's huge userbase compared to the meager one of the ps3's or if the other series you mentioned would also have performed better on wii.
