Almost every single video game system ever produced by Nintendo has had an innovating component:  NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, DS, Wii.  I think the Gamecube was one of their few misses as a system.

Nintendo has a pile of cash.  I have a very hard believing that Nintendo doesn't have capitol to compete with Microsoft and Sony if they made a high-end HD system.  Nintendo, currently, has the 2 best selling games sytems (and the only ones that have made a good profit from the beginning) and they have the software earnings that dwarf their nearest competitors.  How could Nintendo be seen as an underdog anymore?  Indeed, reports have shown that Nintendo has dramatically increased their funding into R&D.

I believe that Nintendo, as Reggie states, cannot just make an HD system.  They need a new innovating idea.  The problem is, Microsoft and Sony, have also jumped on this bandwagon.  Natal is the logical next step.  What else is there?  The Wii isn't an idea that can be replicated every new video game generation?  Can Nintendo actually come up with an idea that captures the public imagination like the Wii did?  I am not sure how many more directions Nintendo could go in.  Brain-controlled software is on the horizon, but who knows how long that will take to perfect.

What other ideas are there?  What can Nintendo do next that will 1-up the Wand, Natal, and the Wii itself?
