Rarely is a beta used to actually test the game anymore. BF:BC2 comes to mind along with MNR. They gave away the codes to anyone who wanted them. So people just play it to see what the game is about and never report any bugs they encounter. Home had a proper beta where it was extremely hard to get into(for EU anyway) and you had to sign an NDA. So there was less leaks from them but there was still plenty. We had a special forum that no one else could see so we could talk about it. Most betas now are just becoming a demo to people who look at gaming sites and not to actually test the game. |
Since the lengthy response has already been taken,
It's not like MAG has had 4 (or more?) beta phases prior to this open public phase. Not to mention the changes it's had in that time.
