Money would not be an issue for Nintendo to buy EA. Even if they don't have the cash on hand, they could easily borrow money for it (believe me, banks would line up at Nintendo's door selling them loans).
The problem is that it would be very un-Nintendo for them to do that. They don't buy big companies with huge baggage, they buy small developers which have development philosophies similar to Nintendo.
I suspect what will happen to EA if they continue losing money (or making little profits) is that they'll keep getting smaller, up to the point that they are almost only making licensed software (Fifa, etc.). At that point if they're still not profitable then something's very wrong and someone would buy them.
