Oh god, I'ma have to buy 5 copies day one now. Excellent decision leaving it 2D.

From what I understand, the bodies and the court are actually 3D (note the shadow), it's just the heads (and likely the crowd) that are 2D.

Don't tell me that!  I'm going to cry now.

Oh come on, don't cry. The gameplay looks totally retro. It's 3D in the same way NSMBWii is 3D!

Nah, NSMBWii still controls like it's in 2D.  This won't if it's really 3D.

So the side-court camera view isn't enough to assuage your doubts?

The two control methods are:

1. Some kind of unspecified motion scheme.

2. Horizontal wiimote NES-style, just like NSMBWii.

Feeling better yet?

The issue is that the players move differently if it's 2D vs. 3D.  In 2D, basketball games control just like a Pokemon game with depth just being an optical illusion.  In 3D, they move around the court differently.  It's hard to explain.  I prefer the 2D style for arcade sports games, and after playing NBA Jam and Madden for the SNES, and then years of Madden, NCAA Football/Basketball and a billion other sports games on the N64 and the consoles that followed it, the subtle difference is pretty noticeable and irksome if it's not the right one.
