I must agree with last bit of your post.

As for the first bit it is wrong regarding who would give a fuck about driving on the same track on GT5 and in reality.

For the same reasons that formula one drivers admit to playing F1 on consoles, for the same reasons many footballers (who are NOT getting financial rewards for admitting it) play FIFA etc.,

Well thinking back I also disagree with that part :P

As for the 3D, that should be cool and could be part of the reason for the delay.
