Probably because, like many comic fans, we idealise heroes (this does not include Wovlerine) and aspire to be like them. Any girl who shows signs of actually being interested in comics or mainly Marvel comics or the X-men is instantly more attractive to me but that's just me.

I think it has more to do with most people who are an outlier of society tend to be more accepting than their mainstream counterparts. There are always exceptions but people who have different likes than the common person are generally more forgiving of others who also sit outside the norm.
