Final Fantasy exclusive to the Xbox is the only thing that could project the 360 into the high single-digit millions over its lifetime in Japan. Microsoft could definitely afford to pay for this, unfortunately the result is far from guaranteed, so I fully understand why they will never risk the $50-100 million it would take to secure this outcome, especially when their games division is just starting to learn about the word "profit."
