You think? If it sells a million on 360 it will in all probably have been a profitable port. And as the first FF on 360 getting 1 million might meet S-E expectations and in fact be somewhat encouraging to do another FF on 360 (or perhaps Nextbox). Less than 1 million and I think some people at SE might be feeling a bit nervous. But is that really likely? |
There is no way FF13 is going to sell less than 1 million on the 360. Lost Odyssey, a new IP and a much less known name compared to Final Fantasy, sold 700k+ on the 360 outside Japan. Now exclusives do tend to get a boost (exclusive 360 jrpg = draws more attention from gamers and the media than if it was a multi-plat on 360) but it would still be an embarrassment to Square-Enix if FF13 didn't sell much more than Lost Odyssey on 360. Lost Odyssey may have a modern presentation to it just like FF13 (weighing in at 4 DVDs, it has lots of cinematics and it contains Japanese, English and a few other voice acting tracks as well as subtitles to go along with it all) and has more of a western feel to it than FF13 (when you look at FF13, you feel that "j-pop" vibe that Nomura brings to the table. You look at FF13 and it immediately feels Japanese) but it is very old-school. The gameplay is like FF9 (old-school) but with difficulty that is even more old-school than FF9. It would look really bad on Square-Enix if FF13 can't beat out an old-school jrpg like LO by a large margin on 360.
