The statement you said is entirely due to the nature of how frontloaded the franchise is. That's essentially it.
I mean, if it didn't pass the expectation in 2 days, it'd barely make it at all, since that's like 85% of its sales. On the other hand, if a leggy game like Nintendo's passed LT expectations in 2 days, it'd be completely annihilated, the prediction wouldn't be anywhere remotely close.
Not to take anything away from the game, it has done well, though I see the above said a lot - like Modern Warfare 2 outdoing everything in such a short time. The length of time really isn't important, unless it's going to continue selling.
Actually, that's a bad example. Thing about FF is, it's always insanely frontloaded, so it isn't anything unexpected.
