When I can so easily describe all JRPGs (w/ a few exceptions) with one stereotype, doesn't that support my argument?

Linear/non-linear has little to do with interaction. I was referring to RPGs where you choose how the dialog/story progresses. An example would be The Witcher, where the main character has a personality of his own, but you still have decisions you can make during dialog.
