I think it will do better than what LBP did in the short term because there's a bigger install base on the ps3 now. It will do similarly to LBP in the long term as well because it will appeal to a broad audience. I also think Sony will advertise Modnation Racers alot which will help its cause.
I'm looking forward to the game!
