Well, nothing so far indicates the delay is actually down to the game, etc. This could be a marketing driven change, to put GT5 somewhere in the year where Sony think it will see more sales and/or better compete with 360.
The fact they are saying the delay is for a single region tends to support this notion, as it is unlikely the game could be finished enough for one region but not another.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
