You don´t need to backup, just plug your HD on other PS3 and you have the same Ps3, as I read posts around, it only happens if you are playing more than 3 hours each day.. it´s a lot of time!

do not put the HDD into another PS3, it will reformat it, the best way is to back your data up to an external hard drive

On Topic: Unfortunately a lot of original PS3 owners I know on here have experienced YLOD, the best advice I can give is if your PS3 starts making noises and freezing on you, it is time to start thinking about getting a slim before your PS3 breaks on you, I still thiink it is not down to the user as some people claim, because I looked after my old PS3 and it got poorly after 3 years of usuage, so I got a slim.
