The bronze, silver and gold differentiation is necessary in order to distinguish between difficulty of achievement. It's exactly the same on 360 where some are worth 5g and others 50g... so I don't get how that seems different to you. *scratches head*
It's good how 360 achievements are immediate, I'll give you that. Oddly though, I actually enjoy syncing my trophies - it feels satisfying for some reason, perhaps because I then see the entire jump of my session's efforts, e.g. a whole extra 12 trophies or whatever.
