Yes, I know, I'm more than just a bit biased towards what I consider the best p&c adventure company during the best p&c era (Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts from 1987 to 2000), but I also liked the Sierra adventure games I played (King's Quest series, Space Quest series, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers), Revolution Software's Broken Sword 1+2, Westwood's The Legend of Kyrandia trilogy and Blade Runner, Interplay's two Star Trek adventure games, Adventuresoft's Simon the Sorcerer I+II, Perfect Entertainment's Discworld 1+2, Funcom's The Longest Journey and a few modern adventure games such as the two great ones in my sig.
Thanks to German PC gamers' unbroken love for (mainly LucasArts) adventure games, my country became one of the most important ones in developing own and publishing foreign western-style point&click adventure games. Most of these games can't compete with LucasArts' best ones imo, but I live in adventure game heaven these days. Lots of games from US developers are financed by German companies (e.g. Bill Tiller's A Vampyre Story & Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, Jane Jensen's Gray Matter) and therefore often published here first thanks to devoted companies such as Daedalic, Crimson Cow and dtp.
While it used to be NA (and to a lesser extent UK) 10 to 20 years ago, today NA has "only" Telltale and UK no notable company which develop new adventure games (if I'm not mistaken). It's continental Europe which keeps western p&c adventure gaming alive - besides Germany I think it's mainly Scandinavia, France, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, Poland at the moment.
BTW: I still have to try out Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Grail mentioned by slimebeast. It looks very interesting and I missed some of Sierra's best adventure games back in the day.
