I've had the launch system PS3 and so far it has never given me problems. If it stopped working today, I'd understand and if it stopped working after 13 months of ownership I'd understand as well. I'm not made of money, but the fact is electronics burn out and if I used it excessively (imo 2-3 hours a day) I don't see how I could expect the system to last too long. Take the extra precautions if anything, there are rules such as the 6 inch distance thing and what not.

That is never acceptable for any electrical appliance that costs in the region of games consoles.  Thats the sort of attitude that manufacturers try to instill and brainwash into people with their 1 year warranties they provide.  In the UK we have the SOGA to challenge such cases and in most EU countries you can also sue retailers to repair or replace a product upto 2 years after purchase.  Fair enough if your iron fails after 13 months it might be understandable but not a HDTV, console, etc.

sony does fix many of it devices out of warranty. seriously if things are designed correctly they should outlast warranty period by years.

I know that they do from time to time fix devices out of warranty for free, I wasn't having a dig just to clarify .   Lets not forget the 360 3 year guarantee isn't a true warranty as it only covers 2 faults too.

@Cypher - Thanks for clarifying where the figure came from, there have been a lot of those figures banded about and I couldn't remember which it was.  I should really have said that neither Sony or Microsoft have ever announced official figures, not just detailed Sony but I think I did just because the thread is regarding the PS3 and I didn't want to go off topic with RROD talk.
