Why didn't Sony hype their wiimote at CES this year?

while game consoles maybe be introduced, they are not the main focus since they are other conventions for that

I think you misunderstood me or I'm misunderstanding you.

I'm not saying a thing about game consoles, I'm talking about new technology.

The Sony Wand isn't new or interesting technology. That's like arriving at the show and trying to show off some minotor that someone else has already been producing for a year but yours might be an inch or so bigger.  whoop-dee-do.

The wands are not what is cool, they are nothing really new and nothing really special, it's the games that have the potential to be cool.
