I'm sorry but what action game has a good story? God of War's is absolutely ridiculous. I love the universe, don't get me wrong. They are great characterizations of the famous Greek mythological figures, but.... Kratos is the biggest fucking moron on the face of the earth. He kills his own family, despite being warned, and blames Ares for it. He kills the God of War because he was rampaging like crazy, and then he himself starts rampaging after he gets the abilities. He's a dick, a moron, and seriously just an awful person. Luckily that fits right in with Greek mythology. But a good story? Don't make me laugh. Bayonetta absolutely has a story, and while it's not incredible it has its moments and serves the purpose of allowing for the most epic scenes events ever in an action game, and bosses and setpieces to a scale that will make Kratos piss himself. I recently picked up the God of War collection after not liking the series previously to give it another chance. I loved it. It's so much better than I remembered, and quickly became my favorite action series. Sad that it held that title for less than a month. It's simply not as good a game in any manner, whether we are talking about presentation, gameplay, or value. Bayonetta plays better, has much more style, a much grander scale, is signifficantly longer, and offers easily double the replayability of the first and second God of War games combined. That said, yes, it has a lot of issues on PS3. But if we are talking about the games overall, when played at their best, the difference is very similar to what it was like to play Modern Warfare 2 after Uncharted 2. |
I finished Bayonetta in 9 hours with over 5 deaths in just about every chapter on normal. As I recall, that's no longer than the God of Wars. Maybe even shorter than GoW II.
