I've done this.
It starts off as a lot of fun and a good learning experience. You go through and you play with KDE/Gnome, try out lots of different toys via the package managers (RPM/APT/etc), and more.
However the problem with dual-booting is that you have the option of windows. If you want to play PC games, you reboot to windows. If you want to work a third-party software, you reboot to windows. If you want nice font-smoothing, you reboot to windows. Essentially, you will (or at least I did) come to the realization that everything you want/need can be done on Windows whereas Linux... really has nothing to offer beyond headaches in getting hardware working that has great windows support and a collection of freeware that often times has window ports or superior alternatives.
Using different operating systems is a good experience though, regardless of the outcome.
