It is pretty much impossible for Sony to make any money from the PS3 business unless they can keep it a viable platorm for at least 20 years.... they are still losing money and are easily over $8 billion in the red with the PS3 business.
And the PS3 is not future proof, in the same way the the PS2 wasn't... at the moment there is no such thing, perhaps 15-20 years down the line there will be such a possibility (assuming people still play games on dedicated machine then, which is not certain)
