On a busy Thursday morning at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, video game accessory distributer Innex, Inc., announced and debuted the prototype for a motion controller for the PlayStation 3.
Manufactured and designed by Komodo, the 3D Motion Freedom Remote has a look and feel similar to that of the successful Wii Remote by Nintendo. The device, which is black with azure-colored buttons, gives players control options similar to that of the Wii as well.
The Freedom Remote doesn't appear to have lost any of the standard functionality of the PS3's standard controller as it features a D-pad, analog stick and all of the expected buttons. The button placement, however, is a little different (the L2 trigger is underneith like the "B" button is for the Wii). The upcoming controller also has one feature that the standard PS3 controller lacks: turbo control. By the same token, the remote lacks one feature that the Wii Remote often utilizes: the accessory port.
Having already been tested by Innex with two games as of Thursday morning (UFC Unleashed 2009 and Gran Turismo 5), the Freedom Remote is said to be compatible with all PS3 games to date. Innex commented that they wouldn't mind if a developer decided to code a future game to take advantage of the Freedom Remote's capabilities.
Innex representative Dan Workman has told The Game Guys in conversation that the 3D Motion Freedom Remote should be released no later than June of 2010.
