I thought Nintendo might make an acquisition of one of Sony's studios last year as they were getting into financial trouble, but I've since learned more about how Nintendo thinks about acquisitions. They're only likely to buy up a smaller company if that company is amenable to Nintendo's design philosophies, and even then they don't do it often, as when they do they put a lot of energy into molding the developer into a 'Nintendo' developer.
In that light, you'd have to think about what studios might align with Nintendo's ideas.
