That's the main problem: many talented people have left, and Sega is only a shadow of its glorious past... Nintendo doesn't need to buy them, just do some "2nd party" partnerships à la Mario & Sonic is the way to go: you fund one game at a time, and you don't take any risks with the management and the business side of things... Capcom, on another side, is a very different story: even with the Clover/Platinum guys out, their teams are still awesome. They release only a few games each year, but usually all of them are top quality. Plus it's not that big, and would cost only a fraction of Nintendo's fortune (10%, if the numbers in my head are correct)... That's why it think it's doable, and also wishable... :) |
Good points, and Capcom would help diversify and stretch Nintendo's portfolio like I'm hoping for. Not sure how Capcom's corporate culture would mesh with Nintendo's, though. Anyone have any insight?
I don't want an acquisition to be like Square Enix, where it seems like they're just two different companies that happen to be one. I want it to be more on the level of Retro into Nintendo or Maxis into EA (that one seemed to go very smoothly). Very seamless and a nice match of corporate cultures to help merge into one.
