nothing could kill mario, which is sad imo...lbp/modnation racers deserves to imo, but it will never happen, mario was great in the day...but he isnt utilized right imo

Agree. Mario (and Zelda) has been overrated today. It is the same thing over and over again and I have always said SMB3 is the best in series. It is the name that sells not the quality. Sure NSMBW had the multiplayer going (god how long did we wait for that on a 2D Mario, over 20 years?) but really offered nothing new when compared to SMB3. LBP has sackboy which is really lovable and the customization left and right to the point that you can create almost entirely new games and mimic others (MGS) adds sooooo much replayability. Of course any Wii fan will attack anything that is not Mario. Hats off to Mario 64 and SMG for trying something different. I feel that I grew out of the Mario phase during the SNES era while many people are either still stuck in that phase or are still young and in the phase.

Other games could have shined had it not been for the blind following Mario carries, for example Kid Chameleon. I mean the vast amount and variety of helmets almost completely changed gameplay (had a pretty decent story for a platformer too). Then you have other gems like Bonk, which unfortunately was in the dying Turbo Graphix 16. Hell even Blue's Journey had more depth (although I consider it a Mario ripoff that did it better though) with certain RPG'ish elements from a more expensive system, the Neo Geo.

Ratchet and Clank can be considered a platformer but with lots of shooting elements and some RPG'ish elements which I consider a superior game in just about all aspects, down to the tight controls and vast storyline (yes fun gameplay). But anyways to each his own. Once people wake up and branch out to other games of the genre they will realize there are amazing gems to be had (I doubt most will now that Wii is on top), so to an extent I feel that it just kills gaming. It's as if we were still playing Pac-Man with some better graphics (I know, not a platformer but for sake of time comparison).

So, so wrong...I don't know where to begin.
