ive said this elsewhere, but the sales of this game considering its diabilities lead to one massive question...

if it has sold this well, 600,000 in 8 weeks, when its 2 years late withough ads and without a big brother stealing its limelight...

how well would it have sold if it were released 2 years ago? (before all the wii core supposedely left for a HD model)

and another question...if it were released 2 years ago, and instead we got mw2 now instead of mwr...how well would that have sold?

because if mrw has sold like 600000 in 8 weeks, surely releasing it 2 years ago would have at least doubled  or tripled sales, and releasing mw2 would also surely be double this 2 year old port

This game sales are riding on the MW2 sales and huge push everything CoD related is getting from Activision's marketing efforts ( even if Reflex itself got no adds, CoD has a lot of visibility right now esp thanks to that 150 million$ marketing campaign).

The franchise wasn't nearly so big 2 years ago...

i can see this argument, and i see how it would have benefitted form it.

but i think it is a double edged sword. When they were released, you would see pillars and pillars of MW2, with one copy of the wii version hidden on the same stand.

so although I think although in many ways it can be argued that it was helped by mw2, (which it no doubt was), there is also the factor that the launch of MW2 was so huge, nobody would notice MW1.

Also, considering much of the wii "core" audience has a HD console to compliment it...and so therefore much of its potential market wont have bought MW1 as MW2 was sitting next to it instead.

This also means that many of the audience of the wii who are of the correct demographic, and would want this game, have likely played it before, or own it already, so therefore wont buy it again. especially not on the same day/week/month they get their hands on mw2.

yet it is still managing to sell really well as the moment.

this is one of the disabilities i was talking about - combine the MW2 double edged sword, with the lack of advertising, and the fact a lot of the target audience having played it/owning it, with (the current opinion) that the hardcore have abandoned the wii, with the fact its 2 years old...and its doing exceptionally.

if the engine were available 2 years ago, then it would be looking at 2-3 mill lifetime, which isnt a million miles away from the ps3.

this to me, if the first sign that there is still a market for the right type of game. people mention RE4, RE:UC, HOTD2&3, red steel etc, but ultimately, they were all a long time ago, and no non nintendo core game has achieved similar sales for years now.

but this game has.

(edit: ok, WaW did in nov 08, but thats the only one. companies need to tap into this audience that buys call of duty games and nothing else! ie full, cinematic, quality, mainstream etc)
