I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that some "casual gamers" who played stuff like soccer games with their friends on PS2 still haven't upgraded to a current gen console. And those people won't buy a Wii either, because they want to play new FIFA games, etc.
And some may have bought a Wii but quickly stopped playing because it didn't offer them what they wanted, and instead waited (or are still waiting) for the price of the HD consoles (especially PS3) to drop even further.

It should also be taken into consideration that not all people who played videogames on PS2 still play videogames today.
