I am not as sure that PS3 will ever get a meaningfull hack. Sure, it is possible.... but good engineering can make a hack almost impossible to pull off. Take a look at Blackberry for instance. Unlike the iphone, hacking/modding your Blackberry is not a practical feat. There is a reason you cant just pirate any ole BB software and get it to run ( though you can DL plenty of generic midp/java apps that will also work on a BB )
Making a "trusted system" in a computing sense, is very viable, and has been achieved elsewhere. Of course there are never any gaurantees, but I think things look pretty good on the security end for the PS3 and there is a high probability it will remain uncracked for the duration of its market life.
