I would call the Holy Three Mario, Zelda and DK. Metroid is kind of secondary (sales and popularity wise) like Kirby.

DK has been out of the loop for a long, long time, unfortunately. I fear he'll never come back!

How would he return, anyway? Would Nintendo make another 2D platformer? I wonder...
