The same can be said about PS3. It wouldn't even be close to Wii if it didn't have the redesign, pricecut and FFXIII although some won't admit it.
The facts were that NSMBW was released and PS3 had a redesign, price cut and FFXIII was released in December. There is no point to argue what would have happened if those events didn't take place.
As for the race between Wii and PS3 in Japan 2010, I believe it would be decided before December. winning or losing December wouldn't affect the outcome of the winer for the year.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
