It is no secret that people bought Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles to show Capcom that there IS a market for the Resident Evil series on Wii. Some believed that buying the game would encourage Capcom to make a new Resdient Evil game in the mainline series for Wii. I argued that the message being sent is that rail shooters sell well and that is what Capcom will continue to make.
I was correct. Capcom was not testing the market so the message sent and the message received were different. Wii owners tried by buying that game up, so when Capcom releases another rail shooter...
...backlash was imminent.
