I don't know why people are up in arms, it doesn't have the FFXII battle system. I don't know why they said that. There's some similarities, as in no random battles and some kind of semi-real time element, but the actual execution is completely different.
I also don' know where they got this online thing from, last thing SE said was that they weren't sure but it most likely wasn't going to happen.
