There was a shortage on PS3's. I'm very certain of this as Gamestop this year did a layaway program for both the 360 and the Wii, but where unable to do the same for the PS3 due to the inability of having a guaranteed stock of PS3's this holiday season. In the end, both the PS3's and Wii's were sold out, while many just ended up buying the 360 since "the PS3 and 360 are similar and have a very similar list of games."
