It would have been incredible for SEGA to look to NSMBW as proof that 2D gaming is still immensely popular and that they could afford to pull out the stops for this title to make it rival Mario.

But SEGA is not what it used to be.

As sacrilegious as it is to say, I would be more excited to see Nintendo make a new Sonic game than SEGA.
