The Wii can largely thank Japan for that. The Wii sells way more software there than the PS3 does, even without a bundled game. The PS3 is a nose ahead in other regions.
I wonder if this has anything to do with Japanese third parties providing the Wii with more support than western devs, or if Nintendo is just that crushingly huge in Japan (eg, Nintendo's publisher total for 2009 is greater than the next three largest publishers in Japan. In EU, it's a little smaller than the next three. In NA, it's smaller than the next two.).
