I was somewhat interested in Final Fantasy XIII, so I checked out the recent previews and reviews of Final Fantasy XIII on YouTube.
My jaws dropped when I saw the game use the goddamned turn-based ATB combat system, which looks ridiculously outdated. I was like, "WTF?" The gameplay annoyingly switches in and out of combat mode and exploration mode. Nowadays I simply do NOT tolerate any game that does not utilize an unified game mode and seamless transition between combat, exploration and dialogue.
Final Fantasy XIII still does not have interactive dialogue trees and dynamic choices, (none that I could see from the YouTube videos.) You would have thought this is 2010, and a RPG would at least offer some choices to players. It is the most linear Final Fantasy ever, filled with an endless stream of over-the-top melodramatic cutscenes of girly gay boys. If I want to watch "awesome" cinematics, I'll go to the theater and watch Avatar again.
After checking out the videos on YouTube, I've decided that Final Fantasy XIII is not getting my money and business. That much I am certain.
