considering the fact that average review score in japan right now is about 38/100 i doubt that. no, most of the complaints are about: non existing difficulty level, The game is hard as hell when you get to Gran Pulse. batles that you always win by simply choosing autobattles and tapping X all the time(and even by playing them it's always about just attacking since you don't have any control over your team mates apparently), Who cares? I never did in Tales of Vesperia or many other games I played. And its not that easy to win a battle are you nuts? Go play the game... Chain Breaking, Optima Change, and each character gets there own "Scene Drive" or what you'd call a Limit Break. extremely linear gameplay and level design. Its as linear as Final Fantasy X pretty much, until you get to Gran Pulse, which is HUGE. almost non existing sidequests for 3/4 of the game, There are over 60 missions and a lot of them are fun and hard. You fight some epic bosses/monsters. no shops in the game except those at save points and there's nothing really to buy, It made things way more convenient, I don't see that as a bad thing. hardly any town in the game. you can't avoid battles(basically you fight every monster you meet), You can easily avoid battles.
really bad story and awful use of jrpg antics. I personally enjoyed the story a lot, to each their own.
whole pacing in the game is basically: run through corridor-like level -> fight monster -> watch movie -> run through corridor-like level -> fight monster -> watch movie -> run through corridor-like level -> watch movie -> fight boss -> watch movie.
