Hm, I don't get the AAA = 90+ on Metacritic...until I'm proven wrong, I'll just stick with AAA = Big budget games, which are expected to bring in loads of money. Whether or not a game is AAA is also decided long before the game is completed and review copies are sent out.
(this may be wrong as well, but...anyway, it's how I see it)

I don't think the Wii will get as many AAA games as GC. For a Wii game to be considered AAA it should be in the Monster Hunter Tri level and I don't see many Wii games going there.

I think the reason people decide a game is AAA before release is that the level of graphic detail/production shown by screenshots often implies that developers who were meticulous with the details would also be meticulous with the entirety of the game. So, maybe the two are somewhat correlated? A high level of production implies a possible high score? That's how I see it at least. There are a lot of problems with an approach using budget as the operative condition, for reasons such as Khuutra said earlier. What defines big budget? Is it a number? Is it a ratio of value? Does it change from system to system? Is it a contrasting distinction from the average budget?

Anyway, the entire problem that the gaming industry has had with the wii is that we are generally not wii gamers. Whereas you and I can agree that MH is a AAA game in the traditional sense, the new audience has very different tastes, and a lot of them don't seem to care enough to go online and start review sites lol. It is a paradox, in a sense haha

Good points here.

When I think about it, Wii may have broken my AAA definition completely.
