I think he means that every success the Ps3 has comes with an equal sacrifice.

Example. The PS3 Slim was selling like hot cakes and is still keeping good sales even after the sales died down a little. However, every PS3 sold is at a loss. Sony then relies on their software royalties for profit, not the sales of the console. This has been discussed in another thread where Kaz Hirai stated it.

Now, Sony has pushed out some great games this year, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Demons Souls etc. however these games don't sell huge numbers which are needed for profit, so the losses grow.

Just little things like that. I wouldn't say that all good news is followed by bad news, but I will say that Sony is putting alot on the line and sacrificing alot to try and succeed.
