I guess you were unlucky. I've got a pair of 360 remotes (wireless) that have taken a beating from my son and they still work. He even tried to flush one down the toilet and it still works. By comparison, i have lost 4 ps2 remotes to the likes of my wife (sore loser), 2 keyboards [from playing too much unreal tournament (haha)], and a mouse. It is easier to break today's remotes compared to yesterday's, but the fact remains that the companies (1stParty) that make them try to make them comfortable and robust. 3rd Party dev's for remotes usually don't fair as well as most of my ps2 remotes that were destroyed (3) were 3rd party.
