Doesn't it depend on how long it's going to be before Sony bring out the PS4.
The PS3 was pretty much ahead of it's time for a games console. As the vast majority of games have shown, it has stuff that it really doesn't need at the moment and, at this moment in time, I'd say that it was a waste to make it so high spec.
But, if Sony stick to their 10 year plan, then the cell and blu-ray seem like a great idea. Sony clearly have enough money to bankroll it's first 5 years, then after that, it'll be quids in.
If the PS3 can keep pace with the Xbox720 or whatever, Sony has played a blinder.
If not, and Sony have to bring out a new console when Microsoft do next, then it's been a huge mistake
