lilwingman said: Now, let me first say that I have been overly critical of the Wii since it launched. As a staunch supporter of Sony, perhaps it's been a little jealousy of the attention Nintendo has been receiving, combined with confusion about what the hell they were trying to do to an industry that I was satisfied with and didn't want to change. But I was at a friend's yesterday who had Wii Fit and we started playing this thing (first time for me). In front of her whole family here I am, shaking my hips for this stupid Hula-Hoop challenge, leaning from side to side with arms outstretched like a nutcase... It's a crazy experience. You feel completely stupid for the briefest moment and then the sheer fun of it takes over and you forget about how crazy you may look and what everyone thinks of you, cause when its their turn they look just as insane. It's like you can sort of let your inhibitions go. It's a genuinely enjoyable experience that absolutely everyone can take part in and have a great time while doing so. It's a very different type of game than what I usually play, but for what it is I think it's a resounding success and seeing it firsthand, I'm amazed at the way that the Wii can bring people together. I'll be looking in to picking up one for my mom as soon as I can. |
I'm happy you saw firsthand the fun Wii had to offer. I'm more happy that you enjoyed yourself.
Sometimes things have to change. This universe hates stagnation.
If enough people want the experience the PS3 offers (and looks like they do) then it will be around.
Wii doesn't have to be a threat to everything you enjoy.
You don't even have to make it your main console. But it offers something genuine as you saw for yourself & that explains its sales & good press.
Nintendo really did a great thing with this system & their approach to the market. With Wii and DS.
