Also to support BenKenobi's point, you can easily build your own gaming PC for 500 dollars that is more than acceptable. Keep in mind that 500 dollars does not include keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. just as 360's price doesn't include extra controllers, a tv (HDtv), xbox live. So with a 500 dollar budget, you could build a pretty decent gaming rig.
