I'm frankly quite shocked at how large Super Mario Bros. is in Japan. The DS version has a shot at becoming the third best selling game ever over there (behind only the Blue/Red and Gold/silver), but it's likely to end ~ 300K behind the original Super Mario Bros. In other words, NSMB DS will almost definitely be either the 3rd or 4th best selling game in Japan ever.
NSMB Wii has quite a good chance at beating Dragon Quest VII (at 4.12 million), making it the second best selling console title ever, second to only the original Super Mario Bros (at 6.8 million).
