My gut reaction was the 360 would get there first. Based mostly around the reasoning Rol gave in his first post. As ususal when Rol has something serious to say there is usually plenty to agree with. I've not read anything here that convinces me PS3 will overtake 360 before 50 million sold (if ever while the 360 is actively selling).
I think there is every chance both consoles will make it and I think PS3 will be hot on 360's heels. Making this generation the highest selling generation ever. Partly due to Wii's blue ocean strategy, but also because I think there are far more people buying 2 or even 3 consoles than in previous generations. Like it or not, there is a perception that the Wii is for the kids and Mum (Wii Fit), and the HD consoles are for the male grown-ups / older teens. All the families I know that have a Wii + a HD console got the Wii for the little kids and the HD console for the big kid (the Dad). It's a gross generalisation and it may not be the majority perception, but it is certainly a big enough perception to influence HW sales, I think.
