Take it from someone who has now played both games: Bayonetta does not even come close to God of War. You're doing the right thing holding out for Kratos. I disagree with the OP so much I don't even know where to begin. I actually have Bayonetta for 360 thing too that's the funny. It's a great game, but nowhere near perfect. It ranks as a good new hack and slash, but to me it's no better than Devil May Cry.

So.....it's nowhere near as good as God of War, what? 1?

You want to give some reasoning behind your opinion. I mean, maybe you should clear your statements up a little. Is it your user preference that makes you favor God of War? Do you imply that the gameplay in God of War is deeper than that of Bayonetta?

Mostly, I find that users like yourself prefer presentation, character, and story, to in depth japanese style combo systems, and that is the main difference between the two different subgenres. Some often mistake this as a quality difference, but it is actually a difference in user preference, as the developers actually focused on different things when creating the two games.

Thank your lucky stars for DMC though, because without it, GoW wouldn't exist in its current form. Ironically, the creator of DMC also created Bayonetta.

In the end, the game has the pedigree, user reviews, and critical reception to mark it down as a must play for action fans, GoW inferiority complexes not withstanding.

There's no way to objectively compare games. So yes, what I'm saying is my opinnion. Much like every single reviewer who has reviewed Bayonetta is stating their opinnion. There is nothing that makes their opinnion more valid than mine. And yes, as good as Bayonetta is, it's not even as good as God of War 1.

@Jesus Kung Fu - GOW has much better production values. I like the gameplay better as well. It was revolutionary for its time and has pretty much re-defined the way a hack n slash should be. Bayonetta feels exactly the same as DMC to be completely honest. While this isn't a bad thing, it's not the same calibre as GOW.

See now thats a better post that I can respond to....

GOW did have some of the best prodction values of its time but thats just it , only in its time.....we are here in the next gen and almost every game 80-100 on metacritics this gen have better production value that both GOW 1 and 2 (and that includes bayonetta).

The gameplay in bayonetta ,as you said ,is the same as DMC while imo that isnt true this alone makes it better than GOW.....GOW has by far the weakest combat system of the big 3 in the hack n slash genre but it made up for that by having far better characters , atmosphere and story which is why it is regarded as the best in the genre.

Bayonetta gameplay is years ahead of anything in GOW....in GOW the "wow" moments only happen in QTE while in bayonetta they can happen at anytime in game....the boss battles dont even compare with each other. The enemy design is also a big plus in bayonetta with each troop enemy having the same creativity put in to them as a full on boss.

I dont know how far you are in the game but really there is a point in the game where it becomes clear tha bayonetta is the best in its genre....

I disagree. I like the fighting much more in God of War. And I disagree that Bayonetta has better production values. I'm currently playing several games so it might take a while to finish, but when I'm done, I'll revive this thread.
