ROFL. wow. over 30 degrees?!?!?!?! OMG ITS A FREAKIN HEATWAVE. Actually 30 degrees is quite common... It isnt even that hot! 30 degrees is average. i played a full day of cricket in 41 degrees 2 weeks ago... Yeah thats hot, but it isnt extreme. No one in Aus really cares about the heat, when you live in it you get used to it. I would argue that Englands current snow/cold weather/ice is FAR more treacherous and 'extreme' then Australias heat. Its all relative to what you are used to...
As for floods/bush fires/whatever, Find me a country that DOESNT have disasterous weather at some point, whether it be floods, cyclones, bush fires etc. No matter what the climate is there are going to be bad environmental situations, and Aus is no exception.
edit* also, spiders are no where near as common and prevalent as the rest of the world thinks...
(wiki) There have been 26 recorded deaths in Australia in the last 100 years from spider bites, And none since 1979
You run into a huntsman every now and then, but theyre so harmless a lot of people will just pick it up and put it outside... they would never bite, and even if they did, they arent venomous. The funnel-web has killed 13 people out of those 26 from above, but that is confined to Sydney.
