No one is against stem cell research. Some are against embryonic stem cell research. That is the difference. There has been very little gain from embryonic stem cell research, while all the other kinds of stem cell research has been very beneficial.
In fact, if you read this story, it cites that stem cells from the other eye were used in the procedure which I am sure no one would argue against.
