Many people purchased their HDTV's for these new consoles/blue-ray recently. Almost all of those tvs would not be able to support 3D anyway. 3D requires 120hz + from source, where most 120/240 tvs take in the exact same 60hz source and internally up it to 120/240.
As of right now, I know some of the later model DLP tvs can and do support from source 120hz and LCDs are on their way to that as well (some have already started). As far as plasmas go, I donno.
